Hi, I'm Brian.
My name is Brian DeCosta and I'm here to get you #ShreddedForLife.
My mission on Earth is to empower others to live their truths, show others a better version of themselves, and fearlessly pursue that which sets their soul on fire.
I'm a Lifetime Natural Professional Bodybuilder and Online Fitness Coach. Since entering the "fitness industry" (I guess that's what they call it?) back in 2016, I've grown my audience organically across social platforms from 0 to over half a million passionate fitness enthusiasts.
To be blunt, I don't give a fuck about that stat. I'm grateful for it; I'm blown away by it... but there is no "self worth" of mine attached to it. Let me attempt to explain with a really awesome story. IF YOU DON'T READ ANYTHING ELSE, READ THIS! 👇
An American business man took a vacation to a small coastal Mexican village upon doctor’s orders.
Unable to sleep from an urgent phone call the first morning, he went out to the pier to clear his head.
A small boat with just one fisherman had docked.
The American complimented the man on the quality of his fish.
“How long did it take you to catch this tuna?” the American asked.
"Only a little while" the Mexican replied.
"Why don’t you stay out longer and catch more fish?" said the American.
"I have enough to support my family and give a few to my friends." the Mexican said as he unloaded them into the basket
The American asked, “But what do you do with the rest of your time?"
To which the Mexican replied, "I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife Julia, and stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos. I have full on busy life, señor."
The American laughed, stood tall, and said “Sir. I’m a Harvard MBA and can help you. You should spend more time fishing. And with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat. In no time, you’d have a whole fleet of fishing boats. You’d control processing, distribution, manufacturing… you’d make tons of money! Way more than you’re doing now. You’d have to leave this village of course, and move to Mexico City, and then LA, and finally NYC where you can grow your expanding enterprise with proper management."
The Mexican fisherman looks up and asks, “But when what?"
"That’s the best part! You’ll announce... IPO! You’ll sell your company and make millions! You’ll become VERY rich."
“Millions. Then what señor?"
"Then you can move to a small Mexican coastal fishing village, where you can sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your wife Julia, and stroll into town each evening where you can sip wine and play guitar with your amigos."
Powerful message right? ...I was an Accountant at age 25 back in 2016 when I first heard this story; when I first realized I was working to live LATER... WHEN I AM OLD AND LESS CAPABLE. What do I actually want to do with my life !?
When I say I've been featured as a fitness model in Muscle & Fitness Magazine, Men's Health, Train Magazine, countless BodyBuilding.com articles and media pieces, I've been on more podcasts than I can count, and I've been invited to over a dozen fitness expos to make appearances for various companies, often times having a line of passionate friends waiting to meet me for the first time...
If you took all of that shit away and told me I would be broke... hell, even if I had all of the money in the world... I would still be training in the gym, nourishing my body well (physically, mentally, spiritually), and listening to really. good. music.
*takes deep breath*
I'm really a newbie to this "online game" and I guarantee I'm consistently doing some shit "wrong" (do ya like my DIY Wix website that has stolen 9342 hours from my weekends I'll never get back?) ... yeah, probably messing something up, but long the way, I've created a few pretty cool things. This is my baby that excites the living FKKK outta me...
I’m the creator of the #ShreddedForLife Mobile App and Coaching Program, which is my $4.90/week personalized 1-on-1 coaching system I use to help busy working professionals lose fat, gain muscle, and completely transform their bodies. As I write this and dig through Google Drive folders, it blows me away to say we've helped over 1,000 individuals radically transform their health over the last 36 months... from the inside out.
Me personally? I was born in Dallas, Texas (my dad was a young strapping engineer for Texas Instruments #calculators), grew up outside of Boston until middle school, at which time I moved to Morgantown, West Virginia (WV is a state it's not western Virginia) for high school and college.
My personal fitness journey began when I was a sophomore in high school when a girl named Mary turned around on my ride home from school, looked at me, and said "God, you're so f***ing ugly!" Thinking back (and writing) on this now, it's comical to me... but for some reason, this comment from Mary punched my insecure 16-year-old self in the gut. It was the breaking point for me.
I decided to take a Fitness & Conditioning class. At the time, I was a skinny runner and soccer player with 0 confidence, and I knew absolutely nothing about the benefits of strength training. Learning the basics of lifting weights in this class was the start of my journey.
Throughout my time in college, I continued to expand my knowledge of fitness, nutrition, the science behind losing body fat, and the psychology surrounding what it takes to make a physique transformation.
Along my fitness journey in college, I also gathered misinformation online and developed a severe eating disorder - Bulimia Nervosa. Through my deep struggles, this is where my passion for fitness really grew.
Even though I originally found fitness through somewhat of a "lack" mentality... wanting to gain muscle to show girls like Mary who's boss... and EVEN THOUGH I struggled with my relationship with food in my beginning stages...
I loved the gym. I loved the process. I LOVED the people I was meeting with a similar growth mindset that I've admired in others and worked hard to adopt.
Still do. Always will.
Anyways... back on track with some boring stuff...
I graduated with dual degrees in Accounting and Finance from West Virginia University (GO MOUNTAINEERS) and joined the corporate 9-to-5 grind, working as a Corporate Accountant at a Fortune-500 Pharmaceutical Company, a "burn the midnight oil" Accountant at a hip tech start-up in Washington DC, and a Senior Accountant for a Structural Engineering Firm.
After 5 years, it became very clear to me that there is a global health epidemic. Throughout my time working 80+ hour weeks for several different companies over a 5 year period, I realized many of my coworkers were overweight, unhappy, and oblivious to how their daily habits and weekly routines were sabotaging their health and happiness.
Purely born out of an itch to help others improve their bodies, I decided to start sharing practical fitness advice on social media, showing others how to manage a busy schedule while maintaining a lean, healthy physique.
Today, in addition to taking my clients through the most affordable personalized coaching program on the interwebs, #ShreddedForLife Coaching Program, I continue to serve and share free, no-BS fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle design advice to my online family.
