Hi, I'm Brian.

My name is Brian DeCosta and I'm here to get you #ShreddedForLife.

My mission on Earth is to empower others to live their truths, show others a better version of themselves, and fearlessly pursue that which sets their soul on fire.

Fancy mission eh?

I'm a Trainer / Online Fitness Coach, Lifetime Natural Professional Bodybuilder and Peanut Butter Expert (My favorite). Since turning fitness into my full-time thing in 2016, I've grown my audience organically across social platforms from 0 to over half a million passionate fitness enthusiasts.

To be blunt, I don't give a !$*% about that statistic. I'm grateful for it. I'm blown away by it. But, that wasn't my intention when I started down this road...

Why did I fully commit to this fitness lifestyle? This brief story below explains. (It does not belong to me.)

An American business man took a vacation to a small coastal Mexican village upon doctor’s orders. Unable to sleep from an urgent phone call the first morning, he went out to the pier to clear his head.

A small boat with just one fisherman had docked. The American complimented the man on the quality of his fish.

“How long did it take you to catch this tuna?” the American asked.
"Only a little while" the Mexican replied.
"Why don’t you stay out longer and catch more fish?" said the American.
"I have enough to support my family and give a few to my friends." the Mexican said as he unloaded them into the basket

The American asked, “But what do you do with the rest of your time?"

To which the Mexican replied, "I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife Julia, and stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos. I have full on busy life, señor."

The American laughed, stood tall, and said “Sir. I’m a Harvard MBA and can help you. You should spend more time fishing. And with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat. In no time, you’d have a whole fleet of fishing boats. You’d control processing, distribution, manufacturing… you’d make tons of money! Way more than you’re doing now. You’d have to leave this village of course, and move to Mexico City, and then LA, and finally NYC where you can grow your expanding enterprise with proper management."

The Mexican fisherman looks up and asks, “But when what?"

"That’s the best part! You’ll announce... IPO! You’ll sell your company and make millions! You’ll become VERY rich."

“Millions. Then what señor?"

"Then you can move to a small Mexican coastal fishing village, where you can sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your wife Julia, and stroll into town each evening where you can sip wine and play guitar with your amigos."

I stumbled across this story as an Accountant sitting in my cubicle 4 years ago (Doing anything but accounting things.) I kind of already knew, but this solidified it. Something needs to change... sooner rather than later.

Since then, I've become a Professional Natural Bodybuilder through the OCB, competed in what is widely accepted as the Natural Bodybuilding World Championships: The Yorton Cup (Named after the only natural bodybuilder to ever have beaten Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chet Yorton.)

I've been featured as a fitness model in Muscle & Fitness Magazine, Men's Health, Train Magazine, and countless BodyBuilding.com media pieces. I've attended over a dozen fitness expos in various countries to make appearances for awesome companies.

I am proud of where I am because darker times came before this.

I'm from West Virginia - one of the most unhealthy states in America by virtually every measure.

It began when I was a sophomore in high school when Mary turned around on my ride home from school, looked at me, and said "God, you're so f***ing ugly!" Many would brush this off, but this comment punched my insecure 16-year-old self in the gut. It was the breaking point for me.

I decided to take a Fitness & Conditioning class. At the time, I was a skinny runner and soccer player. I knew absolutely nothing about the benefits of strength training. Learning the basics of lifting weights in this class was the start of my journey.

Throughout college, I became obsessed. I expanded my knowledge of fitness, nutrition, the science behind losing body fat, and the psychology that surrounds making a body transformation.

Unfortunately, I also gathered a lot of misinformation in this learning phase. I developed an eating disorder - binge eating, which eventually manifested into bulimia nervosa. I have since overcome, and through these challenges is really where my fitness interest turned into a passion.

I eventually graduated from West Virginia University and joined the corporate world, working as a Senior Accountant for 5 years.

Throughout my time working, I couldn't help but notice many of my coworkers were overweight, unhappy, and oblivious to how their daily habits and weekly routines were sabotaging their health and happiness. I became the "office fitness guy."

Office fitness guy transitioned into sharing practical fitness advice on YouTube and Instagram. 👉

👉 Social media fitness guy transitioned into working with his first client in November 2016. 👉

👉 Newbie coach acquired his fifth client. Then twentieth. Though plenty of trial an error.

Fast-forward to today, currently residing in Los Angeles, California...

I’m the creator of Shredded for Life, which is my attempt at realizing the mission stated above.

As I write this, digging through emails and Google Drive folders, it blows me away to say we've helped over 1,000 individuals transform their bodies over the last 36 months... sustainably, from the inside out. Without providing a single sub-1,200 calorie meal plan / macronutrient profile.

Enough about me.

Now, it's all about you.
